How comfortable do people feel asking questions, admitting mistakes or challenging an idea in your workplace? And what happens when someone needs to communicate or participate differently from the rest of the team?

Psychological safety can influence how people learn, contribute and develop at work. But creating the conditions for it takes more than encouraging people to speak up. Everyday interactions, expectations, power dynamics and working practices all play a part.

In this practical workshop, we'll explore psychological safety through the lens of inclusion, learning and team development. We'll consider how neurodiversity and individual differences shape workplace experiences, and identify realistic ways to make meetings, feedback and everyday collaboration more inclusive.

Where: Live online

Duration: 90 minutes

Who: Managers, team leaders, HR and L&D professionals, educators working with adult teams, and anyone supporting workplace inclusion and development

Experience: No previous knowledge of psychological safety needed

Booking: Pay online or request an invoice

Early-bird price: £59 (usually £79).
What will I learn?

By the end of the workshop, you'll have explored how to:

  • Understand psychological safety: Explore what psychological safety means and how it relates to inclusion, learning, participation and team development.
  • Recognise barriers to speaking up: Identify how power dynamics, workplace culture, communication expectations, bias and fear of negative consequences can influence participation.
  • Consider neuroinclusive practice: Explore how differences in processing, sensory needs, communication and working preferences may affect people's experiences of psychological safety.
  • Apply psychologically safer approaches: Consider practical ways to improve meetings, feedback, responses to mistakes, questions and constructive challenge.
  • Develop an action plan: Identify realistic steps at individual, management or team level to strengthen psychological safety and inclusion, with ways to review progress.
Who is it for?

This workshop may be particularly useful if you:

  • Manage, supervise or lead a team.
  • Work in HR, organisational development, learning and development or inclusion.
  • Facilitate meetings, training or professional learning.
  • Want to encourage questions, feedback and constructive challenge.
  • Are reviewing how neuroinclusive your workplace practices are.
  • Want practical steps that can be introduced within everyday working routines.

You don't need to be a manager to attend. Psychological safety is influenced by interactions across a team, although people in positions of authority have particular responsibilities.

What will we do?

Consider neuroinclusive working practices

We'll look at how sensory environments, processing time, communication preferences and different ways of working may influence participation and belonging.

Explore practical approaches

Drawing on the MINDI approach, we'll consider meeting structures, opportunities for questions, feedback conversations, responses to mistakes and ways to invite constructive challenge.

Plan realistic changes

You'll identify a small number of actions relevant to your role or team, considering how to seek feedback and review whether changes are helping.

Why a brain-friendly approach?

Psychological safety is commonly understood as a shared belief that people can take interpersonal risks, such as asking questions, acknowledging mistakes or raising concerns, without expecting humiliation or punishment.

Research on team learning and psychological safety highlights the importance of interpersonal relationships, leadership behaviours and the wider working environment.

We'll also consider how cognitive, sensory and communication differences can affect people's opportunities to participate. A meeting format that feels straightforward to one person may create unnecessary barriers for someone else.

Psychological safety doesn't mean avoiding accountability or difficult conversations. We'll explore how teams can combine clear expectations with respectful communication, opportunities to learn and inclusive participation.
